This year marks the 3rd annual Heartland Challenge located in Carlisle, IA. The 10 hour team race is a true test of man and machine, thinning out the men from the boys. That is why All Terrain Research is proud to announce their alliance with Pro-Utility team, Zakowski Motorsports, in their attempt to bring home the Pro class win. With all 3 racers on the team being Can-am X-Team Riders things are looking very good for the intense race. The team consists of host and rider Zac Zakowski, currently holding 2nd place in 4×4 Open, 4×4 limited rider and 7 time GNCC champ Scott Kilby, and 4×4 Lites points leader Kevin Tranthem. The team will be racing on Zakowski Motorsports prepped Can-am Outlander 800 Efi Atvs. The quads will be strutting many custom products from ATR in order to hold up to the brutal race.

The team is in high spirits in the weeks leading up to the race, which is being held August 21st, 2010. When asked about the upcoming race, Zakowski stated,”The entire team and I are super excited about the Heartland Challenge! We have some of the best riders out there on board this year. Anyone can ride fast for 10 hours but not everyone can hold a bike together for that amount of time. Kilby and Tranthem know how to ride fast and smart to take home the win. It’s a little intimidating as I am the least experienced of the three, but I have the 2 best teachers racing with me. We are just happy to have a company like ATR on board with us for the event.”

All Terrain Research race team manager Jeremy Bratcher shared a similar optimism about the partnership. “ATR has been working with Factory Can-Am riders over the course of the past year in development of some of their race components available for the Outlander and Renegade ATV’s. We hope to continue to improve on our products with both the X-Team riders and Zakowski Motorsports,” said Bratcher.

Daryl Rath and his Sportsman 850 XP EPS have been lurking right off the lead since the beginning of the 2010 GNCC Racing Season and this past weekend, at Big Buck they pounced on the “4×4 Open” points lead.

Rath, who finished second at Big Buck, has been relentless racing the Sportsman 850 XP EPS. His first race of the season was the only race where he didn’t place and he currently has one second and a two third place finishes in the series. He holds the lead at 72 points and feels the best is yet to come.

“I was really excited coming into this season, we worked very hard last year to get a solid platform with the Sportsman 850 XP EPS. I was able to take all the information we gained and start making the little changes needed to put this ATV up front,” said Daryl Rath. “We have progressed this program from the learning, development and trial stages to a racing stage, and our results are showing that. The fine tuning changes we are making now just keep enhancing the performance of the Sportsman 850 XP EPS. I think it will continue to improve as the season goes on, we are a contender.”

At Big Buck it seemed as dust was going to be the major obstacle to overcome, and it was. The riders all had to fight for clear vision as they looked for a safe opportunity to pass and make up some ground. It made it extremely difficult in the high speed field sections where most of the passing opportunities were. Rath had a strong start heading into the first turn where he caught a rock and broke his goggle lens allowing them to fill with dirt. A quick pit stop to swap them out lost him some valuable time and when he re-entered the track there were additional riders he needed to get through to get back up to the front of his class. Rath continued to pick up the pace and finished with a second place in the “4×4 Open” class and 16th overall in the AM session.

“Daryl has put a lot of hard work and time into his race Sportsman XP,” said Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris Racing. “It’s nice to see his work paying off and we look forward to an exciting race season.”

The Factory Polaris Rath Duro Team had a busy 2009 season tearing up race tracks, and what a successful season they have had. The Rath team has put their machines on the podium and top of their classes multiple times in multiple series. They have taken home wins in all disciplines this season including Cross Country, MX, Supermoto, Ice Racing and TT. This team knows what it takes to put their winning Polaris ATVs out front and on top.

The Rath team has enjoyed success with both the Outlaw 450 MXR and the all-new Sportsman 850 XP with Power Steering.

The Rath Outlaw 450 MXR’s with Daryl Rath and Casey Martin piloting them, have taken wins in Supermoto, TT and MX respectively. Martin even holds the honor of the highest place finish at the Pro Am Level in the AMA ATV MX National Series with his amazing third place overall finish at the final round on MX at Loretta Lynn’s. Since then, Martin has continued his winning ways competing in a winter series close to his hometown in Frenchburg, KY, while training for next season. Martin once again will be contending for the 2010 AMA ATV MX Pro Am Championship in a class stacked with talent.

When asked about his thoughts on 2010 Martin said, “I plan on racing throughout the winter season to train for 2010. The Outlaw 450 MXR has been awesome. I made the switch mid-season and while it may have taken me a round or two to get comfortable, I can say I am feeling 100 percent aboard this machine.”

Daryl Rath added, ” With the double schedule we ran in 2009, Jennifer was going to all the MX races and myself to the XC events. I had the first opportunity to watch Martin compete at Loretta Lynn’s and he was amazing. He put his head down and charged the entire race. I couldn’t ask for a more determined young rider to be part of my team. It was extremely clear we have this bike figured out and Casey is getting comfortable, and I am glad to have him back on the roster for 2010 and will enjoy watching him head for the front.”

The Rath Sportsman 850 XP piloted by Daryl Rath has taken the wins in the AMA National Hare Scramble Series and the IATVHSS Series in the “Utility Unlimited” class. Rath also has finished in the top three of his respective class at the GNCC Cross Country Nationals a remarkable eight times, giving Rath the third place overall in the” Utility Unlimited” class, along with earning a “Top Ten” National Ranking in the Overall Morning Class.

“We have a lot to be proud of and worked hard to get those results. We took a brand new bike and finished top three, it is amazing what can be done with good people behind you and supporting your drive to win. There will be no off-season for us as we are already testing and make additional improvements for 2010,” said Rath.

Cody Anderson also enjoyed his first year as a cross country contender on a Sportsman 850 and was happy about the opportunity. Anderson will be returning to his MX roots as well and will return to an Outlaw 450 MXR to compete in the regional series along with a select number of AMA Nationals.

“It allowed me to experience something new and different and though I am going to return back to the Polaris Rath MX Team for 2010, it was a great experience,” said Anderson.

Another change for the team in 2010 will be the return of Rath on an Outlaw 450 MXR for some non-GNCC conflicting cross country races in select series.

“I have always been one to race many different types of ATVs and I still enjoy challenging myself by racing all across the board. It is one of the best ways to cross train which helps me stay on top of the game.” stated Rath. “ We are excited to bring almost all of our same sponsors back for 2010, a consistent program with consistent partners plays a major role in success.”

“I’m extremely impressed with the accomplishments of the team this year. It is not easy to take a whole new quad and make it competitive the first year out and the success with the Outlaw 450 MXR and Sportsman 850XP with EPS in several different venues is a great testament to the work and dedication of the Rath team,” said Eric Nault, race team manager for Polaris. “With how much has been accomplished in 2009, 2010 should be an excellent race year for the Factory Polaris Rath Duro Team.”

Team Motoworks / Can-Am took three of the top four spots in the Pro Class aboard the Can-Am DS 450™ EFI ATV at the final round of the 2009 World Off-Road Championship Series held outside Mesquite, Nevada this past weekend. Even though Motoworks racer Josh Frederick took the Pro class win by three minutes, he came up two points shy of winning his third WORCS championship in a row. Teammates Jeremie Warnia and Chad Wienen finished third and fourth respectively.

“We knew it would come down to this last round of racing to determine the Pro championship and Josh went out and did all he could to win that third title,” Jimmie O’Dell, Racing Manager for Can-Am ATVs at BRP. “He knew he had to win this last round and he did, that’s all we could have asked of him. We are proud of Josh and the entire Motoworks / Can-Am team, they worked hard all season long and it shows with two riders in the top three of the Pro class points.”

Frederick was forced to sit out the fifth round of racing due to multiple injuries sustained in a nasty crash and he was able to come back and race in the sixth round despite not being fully recovered. He finished the season with three Pro-class wins and was off the podium only twice this season. Warnia finished the season with two Pro-class wins.

Newly signed Motoworks racer, Chad Wienen, used this final round to get more seat time on the DS 450 as he prepares to race the AMA ATV Nationals next year with teammates John Natalie and Warnia.

Team Motoworks rider Dillion Zimmerman raced in the Pro class since he had the Pro-Am class championship wrapped up one round early. He raced his DS 450 to a top-10 finish and ended up eighth in his Pro debut.
