One Mean Looking Mini Raptor!

As a quad guy myself, I can attest that a exciting point in your life is buying your first born their first quad. So when my son was about 6 months old I started looking for a used Raptor 50. My wife thought I was crazy, my son could not even walk yet! After a few weeks of looking I found a super deal on a perfect shape blue 2005 Raptor 50 that I had to have.. After the purchase, we brought it home and I enjoyed cruising around our yard with my son for the next year, he seemed to enjoy it too. By about a year old he was already talking control of the throttle and steering. Again being a quad guy, we all know I could not leave it stock. The wife let me do what I wanted as long as I did not make it any faster. I agreed and went to town on other modifications. In the end it came out great, it now has a set of Mini Fasst Flexx Bars, 1.5″ wheel spacers all the way around mated to a set of Holeshot tires and aluminum 16″ wheels, then I added a custom Quad Tech seat. To top it off I had a custom Modded Raptor 50R graphics made by AOT (ALL OUT THROTTLE) in tribute to the site www.moddedraptor.com which is where I spend my time since I am a Raptor 700 guy. If you have any questions on modding your Raptor 50 feel free to contact me.

Yamaha Announces 2011 YFZ450R and YFZ450X Sport ATVs
New Standard and Special Edition Models Shipping to Dealers This Fall

CYPRESS, Calif. – September 1, 2010 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., announced today its 2011 YFZ450R and YFZ450X sport ATVs, completing the industry’s strongest sport ATV line-up for the coming year. With superior power, comfort and handling, Yamaha’s high-revving YFZ450R and 450X are specifically designed for pure performance and get new color and graphics in 2011.

Both the YFZ450R and X have proven Yamaha performance and durability with long-travel adjustable suspension, a no-weld aluminum with steel hybrid frame, and a powerful fuel injected engine. These two ATVs have a lot in common, but their subtle differences have a major impact on their performance in different riding situations.

The YFZ450R is a motocross-ready ATV at 48.8 inches wide. It is also set up perfect for wide-open trails, desert terrain and sand dunes. The YFZ450X is tweaked to be a tight-trail machine at 46.1 inches wide and optimized suspension settings. Both machines have proven to be championship caliber and customer favorites.

“Yamaha started the high-performance 450 sport ATV class with the original YFZ450, and we continue to dominate this class with the best options no matter where you race or ride,” said Mike Martinez, Yamaha ATV and Side-by-Side Vehicle Group General Manager. “Yamaha has the strongest sport ATV line-up because of our ability to constantly push performance to new levels while maintaining a customer focus and durability in our products that’s superior to anything else in the industry.”

Both Yamaha models have powerful 5-valve DOHC liquid cooled single cylinder 449cc engines. Yamaha’s electronic fuel injection features a 42mm Mikuni® throttle body, 12-hole Denso injector system and a Mitsubishi 32 bit ECU providing exceptional atomization of the fuel for maximum power, unrivaled throttle response and automatic altitude and temperature adjustment.

The superior suspension on both YFZ450R and X models comes from the 44mm KYB shocks in front that have Kashima coating for smooth operation and impact absorption. The 450R has 9.8 inches of wheel travel while the 450X has 9.4. In the back, the gravity-fed cast aluminum swingarm is matched to a fully adjustable 46mm KYB piggyback shock affording the rear wheels 11 inches of travel on both models.

Yamaha designed the YFZ450R and X models to not only provide superior power and performance, but also the comfort and ergonomics to keep riders in the seat longer. When the all-new 450R was first introduced in 2008, it included the new lighter chassis with a T-shaped seat, flexible side panels, adjustable ProTaper® handle bars, and custom-designed Dunlop® tires measuring 21 inches in front and 20 in back.

“When you’re riding for fun with your buddies or flat out in a race, one fast lap isn’t all you need,” said Travis Hollins, Yamaha’s ATV and Side-by-Side Vehicle Product Planning Manager. “You want to be able to ride all day and consistently pull fast times. That’s only possible if you’re comfortable on the machine – if you fit and work together as one unit. That’s what we built into the YFZ450R and YFZ450X.”

The 2011 YFZ450R and YFZ450X both come in Team Yamaha Blue and White for $8,599. The 2011 YFZ450R and YFZ450X Special Edition models, at $8,949, get aggressive new colors with a Black Metallic base, red accents and unique SE graphics. These Special Editions also have quick-release fasteners for no-tools installation and removal of the front and rear fenders, a black swingarm and a dealer-installed GYTR® black front grab bar. They will be in dealerships starting this November. More details, photos and videos are at: America’s Most Diverse – Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, Home

$50,000 GRANTed to Five Recipients in Q2; Nearly $1.5 Million to Date Promoting Safe, Responsible OHV Riding and Sustainable, Open Access for Motorized Recreation

CYPRESS, Calif. – August 23, 2010 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., awarded more than $50,000 in GRANTs (Guaranteeing Responsible Access to our Nation’s Trails) to ATV riding clubs and public land management agencies across the country in the OHV Access Initiative’s mid-year funding cycle for 2010.

“Two years into the program, we continue to see the OHV community respond and apply for resources with well-designed projects that support the safety and sustainability of motorized recreation nationwide,” said Mike Martinez, general manager of Yamaha’s ATV and Side-by-Side Operations.

Since the introduction of the Yamaha OHV Access Initiative in 2008, 129 organizations have received GRANT funding for projects that directly support responsible OHV riding and open access for motorized recreation.

“As we evaluate the effectiveness of the OHV Access Initiative, it is clear that a significant portion of our GRANTs benefit areas that might otherwise be lost to OHV riding,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV/SxS marketing manager. “Our GRANTs are supporting local, state and federal public lands in 30 states, and we know there are still many critical areas that need funding. If your riding area needs help, we strongly encourage you to consider submitting an application.”

Yamaha GRANTs were awarded to five qualified recipients from applications received during the program’s second quarter funding cycle.

Awardees include:

Arkansas Trail Blazers ATV Club

U.S. Bureau of Land Management – Pocatello, Idaho

Mountain Trail Riders Association – Jonesborough, Tenn.

Red Rock Rider’s ATV Club – Pengilly, Minn.

Washington State Department of Natural Resources – Capitol State Forest

About the Yamaha OHV Access Initiative

Each quarter, Yamaha accepts applications from non-profit or tax-exempt organizations including OHV riding clubs, national forests and associations, and national, state and local government agencies. A committee then reviews each application and awards GRANTs to deserving projects. Applications for the third quarter of 2010 must be postmarked by September 30, 2010.

Examples of appropriate projects for GRANTs include, but are not limited to:

Trail development, restoration and maintenance

Trail signage and map production

CYPRESS, Calif. – August 18, 2010 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., has received Field & Stream magazine’s “Best of the Best” award for the new 2011 Grizzly 450 with Electric Power Steering (EPS). The 2010 recognition gives Yamaha a clean sweep for its power steering models – the 2007 Grizzly 700 EPS, 2009 Grizzly 550 EPS and now 2011 Grizzly 450 EPS have all been named “Best of the Best” since Yamaha introduced power steering to the ATV world in 2006.

According to Field & Stream: The Best of the Best judging criteria include the significance of the innovation, the quality of the design, and the value it brings to hunters. Criteria varied, depending upon the category, but all of the winning products shared one quality: excellence in their field. The Grizzly 450 EPS will be featured in the September 2010 issue of Field & Stream.

“The ‘Best of the Best’ is one of the outdoor industry’s biggest awards, and Yamaha is proud to be a four-time winner including all of our top utility ATVs and the Rhino 700 Side-by-Side vehicle,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s marketing manager. “Outdoorsmen use these machines for scouting, hauling, food plotting and various other challenging hunting situations. Whether we are talking about the mid-size or big bore class, the Grizzly line’s off-road capabilities and reputation for durability and reliability make these vehicles stand out for customers who collect the best gear.”

The new Yamaha Grizzly 450 EPS comes with Yamaha’s industry-leading electric power steering, a new one-piece frame and an all-new rear sealed wet brake. It also incorporates Yamaha’s Ultramatic® automatic transmission with CVT clutch system, On-Command® 2WD, 4WD and 4WD with full diff-lock, and four-wheel independent suspension. It is available this summer in Hunter Green, Steel Blue and Realtree® AP™ HD camo.

This year marks the 3rd annual Heartland Challenge located in Carlisle, IA. The 10 hour team race is a true test of man and machine, thinning out the men from the boys. That is why All Terrain Research is proud to announce their alliance with Pro-Utility team, Zakowski Motorsports, in their attempt to bring home the Pro class win. With all 3 racers on the team being Can-am X-Team Riders things are looking very good for the intense race. The team consists of host and rider Zac Zakowski, currently holding 2nd place in 4×4 Open, 4×4 limited rider and 7 time GNCC champ Scott Kilby, and 4×4 Lites points leader Kevin Tranthem. The team will be racing on Zakowski Motorsports prepped Can-am Outlander 800 Efi Atvs. The quads will be strutting many custom products from ATR in order to hold up to the brutal race.

The team is in high spirits in the weeks leading up to the race, which is being held August 21st, 2010. When asked about the upcoming race, Zakowski stated,”The entire team and I are super excited about the Heartland Challenge! We have some of the best riders out there on board this year. Anyone can ride fast for 10 hours but not everyone can hold a bike together for that amount of time. Kilby and Tranthem know how to ride fast and smart to take home the win. It’s a little intimidating as I am the least experienced of the three, but I have the 2 best teachers racing with me. We are just happy to have a company like ATR on board with us for the event.”

All Terrain Research race team manager Jeremy Bratcher shared a similar optimism about the partnership. “ATR has been working with Factory Can-Am riders over the course of the past year in development of some of their race components available for the Outlander and Renegade ATV’s. We hope to continue to improve on our products with both the X-Team riders and Zakowski Motorsports,” said Bratcher.

The 2008 model year saw the introduction of the RANGER RZR 800, the first Sport Side-by-Side with razor-sharp performance. With its 50-inch, trail-capable width, fastest acceleration, patented design that put the engine behind the seat for the lowest center of gravity and agile handling, the RANGER RZR 800 changed the entire Side-by-Side category.

For 2009, Polaris introduced the pure-sport RANGER RZR S 800 that offered an 800 H.O. engine for more speed and power, and a premium long-travel suspension for the dunes, desert and wide-open spaces.

Model year 2010 saw the first Robby Gordon Edition RANGER RZR 4 800, the world’s only four-seat sport Side-by-Side that offered Razor Sharp Performance for 4.

“Model Year 2011 continues the undisputed leadership with improvements across the RANGER RZR line,” said Matt Homan, president and general manager of Polaris’ Off-Road division. “Polaris was the first manufacturer to offer Side-by-Sides that offered razor-sharp performance and we will continue to innovate and lead the category.”

For 2011, The RANGER RZR family receives aggressive front-end styling that increases cooling airflow area by 29 percent, with new side protection for easier ingress and egress, a new in-cab accessible glove box, High/Low headlights for increased night visibility, and a new fuel management system coupled with a new tank that offers a 30 percent improvement in range with better slow speed drive-ability. Quality improvements include better clutch/belt cooling, improved front and rear drive durability and sealed dash switches. The units also will feature new easier-to-use side nets.

The RANGER RZR 800 will offer more razor sharp trail performance with six percent more power in 2011 with the addition of an 800 H.O. engine giving the RANGER RZR 800 53hp and quicker acceleration corner-to-corner. Built for the trail, the RANGER RZR 800 also will include new trail-friendly rear rack extenders to make it easier and more convenient to carry more gear. For hunters, Polaris also will offer the vehicle in the new Polaris Pursuit Camouflage pattern.

For 2011, the RANGER RZR S 800 will continue to offer all the razor-sharp performance features off-road enthusiasts have come to love: long-travel suspension, the fastest acceleration with a 63 mph/101.4 kph top speed, superior ergonomics and On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive for ultimate traction. Along with the full-line improvements, the RANGER RZR S 800 also will receive new ITP 900 XCT tires, big bore shocks and will be available in two premium painted editions along with a standard edition, which will receive a new lower price.

The RANGER RZR S 800 is the first vehicle to feature the ITP 900 XCT brand tires as standard equipment. ITP is the No. 1 aftermarket tire and wheel brand that is well-respected in the industry. The new tires were built for high-performance, cross country trail riding, and feature a knobby, aggressive tread pattern for even more impressive cornering ability. They’re perfect for rough, rocky desert terrain where the RANGER RZR S 800 thrives. Coupled with the new Sachs shocks that have a 2-inch bore providing greater cooling capacity and improved fade resistance for a smoother, more agile ride, the 2011 RANGER RZR S 800 will continue to be the choice of performance-minded, off-road enthusiasts.

2011 Polaris RANGER Utility Side-by-Sides

New Products, More Power and More Features

Polaris RANGER is the leading Side-by-Side brand in the world. Model Year 2011 continues the Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding leadership with incremental new models and improvements across the line.

“Over the past three model years, we have added four new models to our RANGER utility line including the six-passenger RANGER CREW 800 EFI, the heavy-duty RANGER HD 800 EFI, the value-priced Midsize RANGER 400 and the company’s first-ever electric RANGER, the RANGER EV,” said Matt Homan, vice president and general manager of Polaris’ Off-Road division. “Model year 2011 is another exciting year for us with the introduction of three new products to the biggest and best Side-by-Side offering in the industry.”

New for 2011, Polaris is introducing the, Midsize RANGER 500 EFI, a four-person RANGER CREW 500 EFI and first Polaris diesel Side-by-Side, RANGER Diesel.

The new RANGER 500 EFI, shares the same mid-size, two-seat chassis as the RANGER 400, with the addition of a 498cc EFI engine and full instrumentation, providing consumers two midsize, gas models to choose from for model year 2011. The 500 EFI engine provides 32 horsepower giving the unit a top speed of 44 mph/70.8 kph and benefits of easy, choke-free starting and automatic altitude compensation due to its electronic fuel injection. Although its smaller stature allows it to fit in the back of a pickup truck, the midsize RANGER still boasts the hardest working, smoothest riding features of its full-size counterparts: On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive with VersaTrac, Independent Rear Suspension, heavy duty front end protection, high ground clearance and the longest suspension travel in the mid-size class. The RANGER 500 EFI has a 500 lb./22.68 kg. Lock & Ride cargo box with a gas-assist dumping operation, 1,250 lb./567 kg towing and 1,000 lb./453.6 kg. total payload making hauling hunting gear or working on the farm easier. Along with electronic fuel injection, the RANGER 500 EFI differs from the RANGER 400 due to its standard instrument cluster that includes an odometer, fuel level indicator, and speedometer.

With the addition to the RANGER 500 EFI to Polaris’ midsize Side-by-Side offering, Polaris also is entering the value-priced, multi-passenger vehicle segment with the new RANGER CREW 500 EFI. With all the same hardest working, smoothest riding features as the RANGER 500 EFI, the RANGER CREW 500 EFI provides room for four people with plenty of room to spare. The vehicle features the best room and easy cab slide-through so four adults can get in and out easily.

For 2011 Polaris also is entering the diesel Side-by-Side segment, with the introduction of the new RANGER Diesel. The RANGER Diesel shares the same full-size chassis as the RANGER XP 800 EFI with the same attributes that made the RANGER line the hardest working, smoothest riding vehicles on the market. At the heart of the unit is a 904cc, three-cylinder diesel engine which is rubber mounted to transfer minimal vibration to the operator and a top speed of 35 mph/56.3 kph. The Diesel powertrain also provides better fuel economy over gas vehicles resulting in less time at the pump and more time working the fields. The RANGER Diesel also boasts the biggest fuel tank in its class so it can work harder longer. The fully-sealed, fixed center distance clutch driveline keeps water out of the clutches and provides better performance than competitive models.

RANGER Diesel’s work ethic also includes a 55 amp alternator that gives the operator the ability to run many hard working, higher electrical load accessories, such as plows, extra lights, cab heaters and fans at the same time. It boasts one ton towing, 1500 lbs/ 680.4 kg of total payload and can seat three adults.

Along with introducing three new products, Polaris is making improvements to vehicles in its current RANGER offering that will make them work even harder and ride even smoother.

The 2011 RANGER XP 800 EFI and RANGER XP 800 EPS have 50 horsepower with a new top speed of 55 mph/88.5 kph. Along with the power boost for 2011, the models, along with the RANGER HD 800 EFI, will have new high/low beam selectable headlights which provide more light and improved range. Polaris also will offer the RANGER XP 800 EFI in the new Polaris Pursuit Camouflage pattern.

The RANGER CREW 800 EFI Polaris Pursuit model will feature Electronic Power Steering with Variable Assist for 2011. This system allows for easy operation at low speeds and eliminates excessive feedback at high speeds for easier steering and less fatigue for the operator.

Along with the vehicles mentioned above, Polaris will continue to offer the RANGER 6×6 800 EFI, RANGER 400 and RANGER EV as part of its hardest working, smoothest riding Side-by-Side offering and a variety of Limited Edition models as well. The RANGER XP 800 EFI Limited Editions include Crimson Red, Northwoods Green, and a Browning Edition with the Polaris Pursuit Camouflage pattern. The RANGER 800 XP EPS also is available in Sandstone Metallic. The RANGER CREW 800 will be available in a Super Graphite Limited Edition package with power steering and a carbon fiber accented instrument panel.
